Arthur Armstrong Obituary

Arthur Armstrong was born on 5th October 1925 at Tighes Hill N.S.W.

Arthur joined B.H.P. Rifle Club on 6th September 1947 at Adamstown Rifle Range. His first shoot was on that day with a score of 20,20 23 Handicap 63.

He went on to win the Club Championship 16 times 1952-3, 53-4, 54-55, 55-56, 60-61, 61-62, 62-63, 63-64, 73-74, 74-75, 80-81, 1983, 1995, 1996, 2000 and 2001.

Arthur was Club Captain from 1952-53 till 1968-69 and Club President from 1983 till 2011.

Arthur won many Queens Badges, his first being No.16 Badge at the 101st N.S.W. Queens held at Anzac Rifle Range Malabar from 21st – 26th January 1976. He also won the No.14 Badge for the Grand Championship Aggregate in that shoot.

Arthur also attended many Interstate Queens Prize shoots and also shot at Bisley in England, Canada and New Zealand.

Arthur served as the President of the Hunter Valley DRA and was a Councillor for NSWRA for many years.  He was awarded Life Member of B.H.P. Rifle Club, was the first person to be awarded Life Membership of the Hunter District Rifle Association and was also a Life Member of the N.S.W. Rifle Association.

Arthur was a Fitter and Turner by trade and became an Armourer. Arthur was an excellent gunsmith producing complete rifle, rifle stock and shooting accessories for shooters all over Australia and also supplying shooting accessories for many State Rifle Associations.

Arthur was 94 when he passed away on the 29th December 2019 and had been a member of B.H.P. Rifle Club for 72 years.
